CNN has an archive of political TV ads from the past (too bad the video clips are about the size of a postage stamp):
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1996/candidates/ad.archive/

It's interesting to note that negative campaigning has always been popular. The media tries to pretend that it's something new that everyone is fed up with, but the reality is that politicians have always used negative ads. Why? Because they work.

There isn't too much intentional humor in the ads, but some of them are funny because they are so dated. Nice 80's station wagon in one of the Reagan ads.

Hey, my name is Joe and I am a 21 year old comedy writer based out of Queens. I have plenty of material that is constantly being added to, plus a finished 'pilot' sketch show that is being considered by a small, upstate ny production studio. However I am growing impatient and am looking for like-minded individuals, especially filmmakers, to collaborate with and get stuff going on our own. Like I said, I have plenty of material but i am always open for new ideas from new people. If interested post something or e-mail me at jthristino@yahoo.com Thanks and take care.

If anyone is interested in volunteering some time with a great program, check out LIFEbeat's Hearts & Voices program in Manhattan. They are looking for volunteer comedians, balloon artists, musicians, etc. to go into AIDS facilities around Manhattan and do 30-45 minute shows with the patients. If you are interested in making people smile, give LIFEbeat a call at 212-459-2590 x112 or email lollman@lifebeat.org.

Firstly I would like to say that I love the site. I think that it is great to get out of the stupid mainstream comedy.
There are many great Comedy websites out there and I would like to introduce you all to Itsthego!.
http://www.itsthego.com
Basically we are trying to make what people talk about around friends into reality, thus have named it "loungeroom humour."
I hope that you all enjoy our site, and it would be great to get some feedback.
Thanks to BUTM.
Cheers,

Unibroue (http://www.unibroue.com/english.cfm) Trois Pistoles (http://www.unibroue.com/products/3pistoles.cfm). They come in four packs 'cuz you don't fucking NEED six! 9% alcohol, bitches! Nice and dark and ... just lovely. Fuck The Bob for not embracing third-party beers. Actually it's Canadian and I think (based on watching "The Kids in the Hall") that the plural of beer is "beer" up there, eh. I'm buzzin' pretty good on just one, but I'm a HUGE puss! Also, I hadn't eaten much today. But then I DID just scarf down four White Castle double cheese burgers and a large cheese sticks. Anyway, what was the question?

“Comics Stand Up”

Politics is no laughing matter? Wrong!

August 14th, a group of San Francisco sketch and standup comics stand up for what they believe in, with a jokefest for a cause, “Comics Stand Up.”

“To paraphrase Rakim,” says event organizer and radio talker Jesse Thorn, “We ain’t no joke, and we’re about to let the mic smoke. We’re at a crucial juncture in this country, and if we can tell some jokes and make a difference, then it’s incumbent upon us to do it.”

Comics Stand Up features a variety of comedians, from newcomers (award-winning sketch from Prank the Dean) to veterans (SF legend Mike Meehan) to authors (Harmon Leon, “The Harmon Chronicles”) to films (political shorts from The Partisan Jab.) What ties all these jokesters together is their serious commitment to creating a better country for all of us.

Date: Saturday, August 14th
Time: 8 PM
Location: Off-Market Theater, 965 Mission at Fifth St., San Francisco

Who: Sketch comedy from Prank the Dean, standup comedy from Mike Meehan (the Meehan Bros, Comedy Central), Harmon Leon (author of “The Harmon Chronicles), Jordan Morris (KZSC FM), Mike Spiegelman, plus short films from The Partisan Jab (as seen on musicforamerica.org)

What: Comics Stand Up is a comedy benefit for regime change at home. All proceeds from the evening’s program will benefit America Coming Together, a partisan non-profit organization working to register underrepresented voters in swing states.

Public Contact: The Off-Market Theater, 415-896-6477

So there's this show on Air America right now called "Steppin' Out". It's not even on their schedule so far as I can tell (but if you go to their website while it's on, it IS in the "What's On Now" box near the top of the page). And it's not because it's new. I've heard it before. I always have to turn it off though, because... Well, I should explain what the fuck the show IS first. Basically it's a radio show for 12 steppers. And every time I've heard it they're interviewing someone with a REALLY depressing story. I've never (yet) been in a 12 step program, so I know I'm not the audience they're targeting, but I just can't listen to it. What I've heard makes me wonder, can this show actually be HELPING anyone? That's not a rhetorical question. I don't know enough about the 12 step programs to know if this show could be a good thing.

I'm also thinking... well, remember Harland Williams in "There's Something About Mary" talking about "7-Minute Abs"? ...Do I really need to go on? YOU see where I'm going with this, right? It'd be EASY too! All we'd have to do is cut out all the goddamn "god" bullshit! I know if I were in need of that kind of help and I saw any mention of "god" in their plans for me, I would find that more than a little off-putting. (As opposed to "off pudding", which requires a separate support group.) Regardless, these programs shouldn't be 12 steps long because once you've completed the program that puts you on the 13th step, doesn't it? Do we really wanna take the chance that superstition might actually drive away some of the people who really need help? Well, I guess so if they've got the "god" thing in there...

And where does the term "octave" come from? (Stay with me. You've come this far. You have to trust me.) The prefix "oct" or "octa" means EIGHT, does it not? (That one IS a rhetorical question.) So why are there 12 half-STEPS (or SIX whole-tones) in a fucking OCTave??? Because they're using that "Do-Ray-Mi" scale? How many notes are in that? FUCKING SEVEN! "Do-Ray-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do"! They counted "Do" TWICE! You can't count "Do" twice. It's the same note. It's HIGHER. Sure. It's an OCTAVE higher! That starts a new octave! You try counting shit that way and you're gonna be one note short in the NEXT octave, right? I mean, you can hide that for a LITTLE while, but sooner or later the I.R.S. is gonna get on your ass about that missing note. (There's probably a VERY simple answer to this that I would have learned had I ever received even the most BASIC music theory training.)

I imagine there's probably not much in this post that's never been said before, but I just heard that radio show and a lot this stuff just occurred to me for the first time. I'm just so paranoid now about pulling a Robin Williams! I need a fucking drink!

I say 'Bravo' and 'Bellisimo' to Comedy Central for their Secret Stash programming. They played 'Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back' this morning and really did leave it uncut and uncensored. It's nice to see a liberal helping of 'asshole', 'cocksucker', 'motherfucker', and just about every other curse in the infamous 7 DIRTY WORDS list be broadcast on basic cable. It's been long enough hasn't it?!? We pay to have basic cable pumped into our homes and why the fuck can't we have curses and nudity on it? It's about fucking time!!! Bravo CC & Viacom! In these times of FCC oppression, and having a hefty $500,000 fine levied upon you for the Janet Jackson bullshit, you still have the balls to push the limits. See TBS, you can run Mr. Show uncut and uncensored too! Do it.

p.s. I know the South Park movie was uncensored but it has more impact with human beings spewing profanity rather than CGI construction paper kids.

Hey, any Dallasites reading this board. If so i am assuming you like crazy fun shows, because that what Mr. Show is all about. Well if you have never been to The Night-OH-Cabaret, or even heard of it, then you need to get to know it. It was this hilarious cabaret/comedy/variety show that ran in Dallas for 5 years. I went all the time, each week it had material, and it was always super fun.

Well I just saw that they are having a New Years Eve show and I got so excited. They haven't had a Cabaret for about a year and I can't wait to see them do it in a bigger venue with a live band. Here is the websites to check out:

www.lakewoodtheater.com
www.numbsville.com
www.nickgibbons.com/newyear.html

It's this New Years Eve and it should be a hoot! If you've never seen the show you owe it to yourself to check it out, it's retro-tastic!!!

Hello. Seeing as many of the members on this board are fans of The State, Stella, Wet Hot and the likes of these things I was just wondering what your favorite Stella Shorts are. I have shown many of them to my friends and they usually like the same ones the best. So what is your favorite one and why? Is it the ass fucking? The black cocks. Burning babies? Cocks?
