I cannot wait to see this movie. The first time I saw the trailer I was dieing of laughter. I think this is going to be the best comedy of the summer season. In fact, I am more excited to see this compared to all the action sequels that are coming out.
I've been watching clips and trailers from the movie on Zannel, just to hold me over until I can see it in theaters.
And they have a hilarious dance contest going right now. I think anyone who sends in them doing the sprinkler is bound to win. ;)

Misterairbagman (8:43:46 PM): man they're ganging up on me in the knocked up thread
Ecce abo (8:45:00 PM): well, yr wrongheaded is why!
Misterairbagman (8:45:42 PM): I simply don't think the movie is worthy of "Best comedy of the last 20 years" or "Best comedy ever" that the rottentomatoes is spewin and ya'lls is agreein' wit
Ecce abo (8:45:55 PM): Best comedy of year, fo sho
Misterairbagman (8:46:12 PM): It's a funny movie with pacing problems and nothing to say
Misterairbagman (8:47:03 PM): Again best comedy of the year? I mean there are only like 5 or 6 non romantic comedies that come out a year
Ecce abo (8:47:22 PM): When you say it has nothing to say is when I say you are incorrect
Ecce abo (8:47:55 PM): There are only so many major Hollywood Romcoms and several indies and this tops em
Misterairbagman (8:48:07 PM): what is it saying
Misterairbagman (8:48:12 PM): babies is hard?
Ecce abo (8:48:19 PM): Well, yes.
Ecce abo (8:48:27 PM): Babbies is hard
Misterairbagman (8:48:59 PM): yet when 3 men and a baby came out, Nothing, no 90+ on rottentomatoes, nothing
Misterairbagman (8:49:22 PM): I think I'm just bitter that we are forgetting Three Men and A Baby so easily
Ecce abo (8:56:17 PM): I think you are deconstructing this past its more important essences and, perhaps, due to life experience limitations, do not understand the truths which Apatow is bringing to the screen. Nothing new can ever be said; it is the purpose of art to reinterpret past knowledge. Apatow does this with clever ease. The jokes and references made are not always a solid joke, in that they are the perfect joke or that they will have any lasting power. What they do offer is, on one hand, a genuineness of scene, and a capsulation of a point in time. Taking accurate snapshots of moments in time is Apatow's strength (a la Freaks and Geeks).
Ecce abo (8:58:54 PM): Modern man is constantly being thrust into odder and more niche situations and circumstances because of the speed of our culture and technology. We get lost in all the choice we have to make everyday, and have increasingly less models of what solutions are in situations. Without being heavyhanded, Apatow is presenting one model for a specific circumstance that will be looked back upon as a moment in film.
Ecce abo (8:59:27 PM): (sorry, I'm at work)
Misterairbagman (8:59:46 PM): Apatow didn't write a damn bit of that movie outside of "Dudes smoking week, girl calls, wing it"
Ecce abo (9:00:10 PM): Cassavetes often had his dialogue presented on the fly
Misterairbagman (9:01:42 PM): I don't care about little bits of dialouge here and there or when you're trying to convey a feeling, but when it's a joke there is particular form and purpose that is completly lost when poeple just wing it for what is the funniest dick and fart joke
Misterairbagman (9:02:34 PM): The true purpose of a joke isn't to make people laugh but to think. And while this movie makes one laugh, it most certainly is void of thought
Misterairbagman (9:02:45 PM): Freaks and Geeks very much wasn't
Ecce abo (9:05:18 PM): I think the dick and fart jokes were a necessary because the material is very heavy. Also, it reflects the honesty of the characters. And I think the purpose of a joke is to make you think and laugh. I really don't see how you say this film is devoid of thought and meaning. Their is an overarching conversation occurring and it is presented in its bits, that is, at the speed of life.
Misterairbagman (9:06:49 PM): It's a good popcorn flick, nothing more, nothing less
Ecce abo (9:07:45 PM): You are incorrect, something more, nothing less.
Ecce abo (9:08:01 PM): I'm gonna post this on BUTM
Misterairbagman (9:08:28 PM): (I hope) you're just trying to be obnoxious and over intellectualize as a parody of mine taking the movie so seriously
Ecce abo (9:11:05 PM): It's true, you've pushed me into this corner, but a Botts in this corner thinks in this way
Misterairbagman (9:11:39 PM): just look at my equation on BUTM, tis irrefutable proof

What the fuck are you going on about, ME!!? It shouldn't matter how a movie is made. It's all about the finished product. Funny is funny. If you honestly don't think Knocked Up is funny, then fair enough, but to say that it's not a good comedy because of the way it was made is ridiculous.

I don't deny it's funny. I just beleive after Freaks and Geeks and others that this crew should be apiring to higher things than this. Laughing is a side effect of the irony and absurdity a joke reveals, this movie isn't laking in the side effect, just the substance.
Name 2 post-millenial comedies living up to your standards (and giving an ironic- or non- answer will only be an admission of defeat).

Borat is really an overhyped movie, IMO. I know this will cause me to be slaughtered, but I actually think Knocked Up is much funnier than Borat.
Too much of Borat is hinged on a surprise element, so it really suffers.

Borat's hype perfectly matched its quality. It's your own dispositions to 'hype' that didn't allow you to enjoy it (that and the fact you never watched an episode of Da Ali G Show).
Jokes are hinged on a surprise element, so they really suffer.

The difference between being so into character that you can interact believibly with real people is a far cry away from playing yourself in a scene with your buddies. It's the difference between using improv as art to show your acting abilities and using it as a crutch to mask your lack of them.
You have no idea of the margin of difference between the Knocked Up actors and the Knocked Up characters. It is a wider margin with Sacha/Borat, for sure. Improvisational acting involves actors being so in to their own charactes, that they can interact believeably with their co-stars as if they themselves were real people. I think your issue is that you don't believe these actors are having to step outside of themselves, make any stretch. This can be called lazy in some instances, but in the case of a movie like Knocked Up where you're dealing with characters who are common and likeminded and universal, there's nothing wrong with an actor culling from their own personal lives. No one attacks an actress for her portrayal in a crying scene because she also makes similar physical motions when she cries off screen. To make a stretch outside of what a real person would do in a situation is what most discerning viewers refer to as ham-acting.
Seriously, ME!!!!, just give up on this.

Grinch-Gibbons

I got banned from IMDb in such a way that all my posting history was deleted because an Admin decided he didn't like the tone of a few of my recent posts.
And I refuse to go incognito. So I am what I am, and I make constant reference to this injustice each time I log in, in vain hopes for an apology or something. Instead, I get my history deleted again, just like the nips at Nagasaki (see, I like a Thornton movie reference with the best of'em).

So you got banned for being a dick huh ?
There's a trick to getting away with being a dick, you have to be soo good at somthing else that anyone with more authority than you would have to pickup alot of slack if you were gone.
Since this is the internet,
sucking dick, kissing ass, & other general brown nosing just isn't an option.
I think that's why there's so many fuatrated people online, it sure would explain the porn.
I tend to attempt to either make people laugh or show them how to do somthing that others are sick & tired of showing people.
I've gotten away with being a dick numerous times with this approach.
Of course, feel free to be a dick & assume I'm trying to cut you down with this reply if you want, makes no difference to me, I'll still be a dick. :D
