Gay?

So Teej posted a link in another thread to Rip Taylor's website (http://www.riptaylor.com/). I figured this is a different enough topic that it should be it's own thread. I was watching a little video clip he had there. I figured it was a clip of a performance or something before I clicked on it, but it turns out it was just a little DV of Rip talking to visitors of his site, letting 'em know what's going on in his life and so forth. Anyway, the reason I'm starting this thread is that I could have SWORN I heard him say something in the clip about his WIFE! "His WHAT???", I said out loud to nobody. You've gotta be SHITTING me! Sure, guy. And that's your real hair, too. May as well have a beard to go with it, I guess. (Maybe that's not what he said though. It went by pretty quick.) It reminds me of a line I caught the other day when I was watching Jay Mohr's "Action!" on Comedy Central. There was this effeminate guy who just started working with him and Jay turned to someone and said something like, "He's so gay, I'd bet money that he's straight."

It also reminds me of seeing Little Richard on "Politically Incorrect" one night. He mentioned something in passing about his wife. Bill Maher stopped and said, "You're MARRIED???????" But the look on his face begged the question, "Who the fuck are you kidding?"

What do you think? Is it possible that these guys are straight? And if not, how could people like this be in the closet in the liberal entertainment industry in 2004? I understand that the rest of the world contains a much greater percentage of people who are too ignorant to GET the fact that some people just ARE gay and that it doesn't effect them in any way whatsoever, but how does that effect someone like Rip Taylor? Rip is cool as hell, don't get me wrong. But he's not exactly on the A-list right now. He's not exactly frequenting the pages of People Magazine these days. If he were gay, NOBODY WOULD EVEN NOTICE! I would think the only effect coming out would have on him right now is to give his career a slight BOOST. But that wouldn't even happen! It would be a JOKE to people. I't be like if Richard Simmons finally came out. People would just ask what the fuck he's trying to sell that he needs this free publicity.

I have a question on the topic of Gay, I tend to use the words "Gay" and "Fag" when by myself or with close friends usually when I was joking around or frustrated, you know saying something is gay to mean stupid or lame. I learned this habit at a young age when I really didn't understand homosexuality and there fore thought gay meant slang for stupid. The point is I don't really wanna stop saying it but think I have to as to be sensitive. I have gay friends, my uncle is gay and I'm completely fine with it and it dosen't bother me at all. I certainly dont use those words in font of my gay friends and I think I even make a concious effort to not talk about gay topics with them as to not be that guy who tries to hard to make the gay guy feal comfortable. I dont know, what y'all think? Is it gay bashing? Offensive?

I was just watching the "7th Annual Young Comedians' Special" on HBO "Comedy". Those old stand up specials are a fascinating study in un-funny. Anyway there was this guy on there named Larry Amores. Wait... Did I say "guy"? I meant GAY! It was just painful to watch him talk about going on dates with women. So sad.



Anyway, as far as using words like "gay" (meaning "stupid") or "faggot" or whatever, I kind of take it on a case by case basis. I make sure I'm solidly established as NOT being an ignorant, prejudice asshole before I throw out a word like that. If I'm around an individual who has a problem with me using those words, I fully respect that.

I was listening to Marc Maron on Air America the other day and someone was complaining about him using words like "retard" or "retarded". He said that he understands the problem some people have with it, but he's not going to stop using it. That makes sense to me. The way I see it, everybody has some sort of issue that they just don't see humor in. It's all about an individual's limits. You could be telling someone jokes about rape and cancer and suicide, having someone rolling on the floor laughing, then throw in a joke about anorexia, and they're like, "WOAH! That's not funny!" If you're just an individual having a one on one conversation with someone, it's easy enough to respect their wishes. But if you're on stage or radio or TV or whatever, you kinda just have to say, "Fuck it. I can't please everybody." If you censor yourself based on anything that might offend one person, you would literally be left with nothing. And I mean "literally" literally. Plus, who gives a shit if you're offending someone if they're just retards or fags or niggers or whatever? Am I right?

Ah, fuck it! I can't top Crossy's use of the "N-bomb", so I shouldn't try.

Using "gay" to say that something is stupid or "uncool" is bad.

There is no arguement about it. If you think that all gay people are stupid then I guess you can go ahead and use it openly... just make sure you are ready to back up your claim that you hate all gay people. Use all that awesome proof that shows all gay people are stupid....

I am all for insensitive humour...as evident in about 80% of my posts. But whenever I throw out insensitive stuff I do it in a place where I know the audience will understand the point I am making.

I guess that's the point. When I told my friends this weekend that I want to make bumper stickers that say "Fags are People Too" .... they laugh because they knew I was obviously kidding.

Would I tell that joke infront of my co-workers? No, because for all I know there is some crazy asshole who would e-mail me later telling me that he HAS a bumper sticker that says "Guns don't kill Fags, I do, with guns."

Don't use it to make fun of people, use it to mock people who use it....expose them for the backwards logic they hold as gospel.

Push yourself to be better.

my arguement was based on logic and reason. You argued that if you are on the radio or something you just have to say "fuck it".... I'm telling you that's not true. That's the easy way out. So sure you can argue it, but you're wrong.
