Man o naM, that was some horrible radio. Janeane is cool, but it kinda sucks that she has this sort of trial-by-fire where she has to LEARN how to do radio in front of a big, national audience. I've heard the show many times, and she IS better sometimes. Actually, I think she was better (though still not GREAT) during other parts of this show than she was in that awful David Cross segment. I've done some college radio myself and I know from listening back to some of my shows that sometimes it can be tricky when you get a friend in the studio with you to make it a good listening experience for your audience. It was as if they were continuing conversations they started off the air and we, the listeners, were always kind of lost. An easy mistake for an amateur to make. I'm not saying the word "amateur" as an insult, by the way. I'm just saying she's still a novice. Maybe what she SHOULD have done was cut her teeth on some tiny college station for a year or so first. And under a different name so that she could learn the craft and learn how to build an audience in a more NATURAL way, as opposed to this awkward situation where she's already famous for something else and gets dropped into this highly anticipated and publicized gig with the whole world listening and saying, "What'chu gonna DO?" But that's easy to say with the benefit of hindsight. (Of course, I said it before they hit the air, too. Unfortunately, I never said it OUT LOUD {or in print or whatever} so I can't PROVE that I predicted that.) (O')Franken is having some growing pains as well, but at least he's got an radio veteran (even if she wasn't on COMMERCIAL radio) to steer him in the right direction. You know who's really GREAT though? Marc Maron! I've said that here before, but it bears repeating. He's really taken to radio well. But Janeane's co-host, Sam Seder, just bugs the living SHIT out of me. I would have thought it would have been good to get the shit that happens to be alive out of my body, but the fact that they sent BUGS in after it... Bowtie wearin', "I'm with Busey" directin', "nuclear" mispronouncin' son of a cock-cheese.
