I was looking at the DVDs that just came out, and I noticed this documentary about Boston's stand-up comedy scene in the late 70's & 80's.

My review: Meh. Not terrible, but not really spectacular. Comedy nerds like us are going to be disappointed that it's not 80 hours long, but I don't know if non-nerds would give a shit about the 75 minutes or so that are here.

There's no mention of David Cross at all. There's only a brief flash of a still photo of Tom Kenny (I THINK). Bobcat mentions that everyone had a really unique style, citing Steven Wright and Paula Poundstone (and his own uniqueness goes without saying). But there's the glaring omission of any discussion of Denis Leary's plagiarism, in spite of (or perhaps because of) the fact that he figures prominently into this movie with both old and new footage.

It cost me 15 bucks. It's not likely to go into my DVD heavy rotation, but I'm not really THAT pissed off.

Gimme a beat:

If money's tight, it's not essential
But if you got time, it may be werf a rental
There ain't much in the extras, don't mean to sound judgmental
But it's probably better, than that old movie Yental
Although, to be fair, I haven't seen that
Anyway, word, or something

...worst ...post ...ever

That's the movie they advertised on the Aristocrats DVD?

I'm too lazy to look. If so, it looks good.

yeah it looked like a DVD where dumb asses sit around and talk about the "good old days" but don't take the time to help anyone working today.

but i didnt' see it. and I don't like Leary for stealing material.

He took Bill Hicks jokes and made them unfunny.
then he made his own jokes and made them unfuinny.
Then he made a tv show about firemen.

According to worthington's law: Leary > Hicks

I don't think there was a single mention of Leary's plagiarism in his "Roast" on Comedy Central. Aren't those things made for people to tell the most brutally honest truths about the "roast-ee" and make them really uncomfortable? Fuck it, let's just get Jim Breuer to sing a special version of that "Asshole" song and we can pretend it's funny AND rockin'!!

It was in Lenny Whatshisnames roast, but they took it out after the first airing and for the DVDs. Uncensored my ass.

Wait, are you saying there WAS a mention of his plagiarism, but they edited it out?

Lenny Clarke. I vaguely remember him saying something about using Hicks material in the roast.

Not only the whole Hicks thing, and I've mentioned this before, but also Lewis Black does a better ranting comic than Leary.
