Anyone catch the premiere last night? I thought it was pretty well done. I'm not sure how long it'll stay interesting but I was laughing my ass off last night at least.

It was high quality. It's even better when compared to the Adam Corrola show.

I'd like to see him take those O'Riely-esq sparatic vacations. not that i want to see him off the show, it would just be a good way of taking that parody even further. Of course, Colbert doesnt have a co-host for his radio show, nor a radio show.

i can't believe neither of them laughed when they were reading those headlines too that was awesome

That headline about Mother Teresa was the best. Was that improved? I walked out of the room and when I came back they were just spouting them off.

It took me a little bit to figure out "sparatic." Well played, TJ.
And, yeah, I thought the show was very well done.

I seriuosly lauged through the whole thing. Like, I couldn't laugh that loud otherwise I would miss the next funny thing.
Boy, I really wasn't that impressed, not as much as you guys anyway. It made me smile a little I guess, but overall seemed pretty trite and obvious a lot of the time. Much like The Daily Show.
Oh well!
It was fantastic. I loved the way he introduces his guest, Making them stand in the shadows while taking all the glory. It was just perfect.
I feel the news at you.

I can remember several years ago when I saw a commercial for "Now That's What I Call Music 4." And I asked my brother, "At what point do they quit using the number?" Never, my friends.
Never.

Lewis Black deserved a show far more than Stephen Colbert, and even then I probably wouldn't watch it as it's better left as a two minute skit.
I'll be giving it another chance, but at this moment it seems to be the American Dad to the Daily Show's Family Guy.

Lewis Black? Are you serious? (I mean, do you say what you mean with words?) You've seen his stand-up, right? And know he doesn't write Back in Black? That guy really has nothing to offer but his vocal cords. Implant them into someone funnier and they'll use them sparingly yet effectively.
I'm telling you to do it. Go.
Anyway, this show needs more segments like that Better Know a District so all the pressure isn't on Stephen talking at you for 20 minutes straight. Plus, he really knows how to interview clueless people. Show is, thumbs up, good, laugh!

I was wondering about that. He said it was part one in a 435 part series and I think he really should keep doing it. Theres some freaking weirdos in the House of Representatives. Actually he should start doing state senators if he wanted to find some real lunatics.

i just downloaded 2 Lewis black cd's last night. So if it sucks i'll blame Joe.
Oh and
I don't think his "gimmick" is strong enough to a warrant an entire show.

I wouldn't go as far to say that he has nothing to offer but his vocal cords.. but Lewis Black is definately not my favorite. There is no way he deserved a show more than Stephen Colbert.

I'm not a fan of Lewis Black either. He's alright but an entire show dedicated to him would get grating mighty quick.

This show would be better served as a segment (a la "this week in god").

I never said that he deserved his own show. I agree that it would get a bit grating after a while. I just really like his stand up.
Also it's not so much that he screams it's that's he is angry and outraged by everything. So I'm not sure what the "vocal chord" comment means. He's not Sam Kinnison. He does yell a lot but I don't think that is his whole shtick.
You know who should get his own show? Chevy Chase. I'm willing to give him another chance. Who's with me.

Will there be lots of AIDs jokes?

Lewis Black was telling "There's a lot of Starbucks in places!" jokes like two or three years ago. That's close enough to recently for me to kind of hate him. Other than kind of hating him I nothing against him, just THAT CERTAIN prospect that he deserved a show more than Stephen. And what I meant by the other thing is that I appreciate being able to display anger correctly with proper force in comedy so that it adds but doesn't overshadow your entire act (which isn't horrible). He knows how to yell, but I want and can get much more elsewhere.

Ok. Listen.
I don't want Lewis Black to have his own show.
I just think a whole show about stupid news is alot better than a nightly Bill O'Reilly parody.
Also, a "This Week in God Show" would be a better idea.

Last nights Back in Black was incredibly hacky. I was very disappointed. Colbert Report was hit or miss, but it was much better then Black's shitty segment.

You guys are gonna be pissed, Comedy Central is making a Lewis Black show...
(from Comedy Central's latest newsletter)
"Red State Diaries" Lewis Black's rants face reality when he takes to the road to find out what is really going on in the so-called red states. Produced by Apostle, Sony Pictures Television, Jeff Stilson and Lewis Black. "
Sounds LAMEtastic.
Better than him sitting in a studio.

I know this thread originally started talking about Colbert, which I think has been top notch so far, but someone dropped Adam Corolla into the mix, and I can't help but chiming in that I just don't see how anyone could wriet / produce / release into the public anything as BAD as TOO LATE.
It's so bad, even the canned laughter didn't show up to the taping.
On a side note, Adam has a home rennovation show on TLC that is slightly funnier. What I couldn't help noticing, though, in the first couple episodes is that they continiually show him pulling up to the construction site in his Nissan 350Z. The cameras pan in on the car like it's a Ferrari or a Bentley or some other exotic. It's a $35k consumer sports car, Adam!
I guess he clued in to how bad it looked, because in episode 3 he buys an Aston Martin.
Why do I know all of this?
5InchTaint
10-20-2005, 02:49 PM
I watch that show too and it is much better than Too Late. I noticed the thing with the Nissan, too. He must really be in love with that because a good 5 minutes of the show is just him driving and different shots of it. It looked modified but nothing that deserves that much attention.
