View Full Version : Brass Eye
I just noticed that there's a link to download the entire series of Brass Eye (including the pedophilia special) from torrentspy.com.
Here. (http://www.torrentspy.com/search.asp?mode=torrentdetails&id=177262&query=brass+eye+)
I've said how brilliant this series is many times before here, so I highly recommend downloading it. If you need any help using bit torrent, just contact me on AIM (palihatesyou).

Yeah, what is it?
It's a satirical tv show that was on Channel 4 here in England around 1997 (with a special in 2001) written by and starring the comedian Chris Morris. I truely believe it to be the best comedy TV show to have come out of England in the past 15 years. It was very popular here, and constantly made headlines in the UK tabloids because of the sensitive subject matter of the show (the reaction to the 2001 pedophile special was particularly fervant.)
It's presented as a parody of current affairs programs (examples here are things such as Newsnight and Panorama), which I'm sure you also have. Basically each episode centres on a particular subject (Animals, Drugs, Science, Sex, Crime and Pedophilia) intercut with interviews with celebrities (British celebrities mind you, some of which you might recognise) being tricked into endorsing fake campaigns etc that Morris has set up. The way he manipulates those he interviews is just awe inspiring or, at the very least, their ego's are. The fact that the show was so topical is the most likely reason why it was never exported, the most obvious anyway. I've mentioned it countless times before, and if you go back you'll see that the likes of 5inchtaint have also seen the show, and are fans of Morris' work!
By the way, a region 0 (as in, playable on all region dvd players) dvd of the show is available at amazon.co.uk here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000066NT9/qid=1124182886/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/026-7704004-7618845).

Is this the same Chris Morris who did some work on Big Train?
On the first series I believe, yes. That's something of a footnote in his career.

But, you need a PAL to NTSC converter to watch it in God's America. Our TVs won't understand the signal otherwise.
Ah, good point there Brain Stew. Though of course, you could still watch it on your computer.

If it is region 0, then it will work over here
Good point huond, shut up Brain Stew.
Oh I don't know who to believe.

No, it's not guaranteed that it will. The region coding is inside your DVD player's software. NTSC is the video standard that your television uses. European televisions use what is called PAL.
Phase Alternation Line (European TV format)
National TV Standards Committee (the television standards for the U.S, which are also used in Canada, Japan, South Korea and several Central and South American countries)
So you see, the Region 0 will allow it to be played on the DVD player, but the mismatch between NTSC and PAL will not allow it to be displayed correctly on your television. You can circumvent this on your computer, however.
Don't believe me? Look what 1 minute of research yielded:
From: http://www.answers.com/topic/ntsc
The mismatch in frame rate between NTSC and the other two video formats, PAL and SECAM, is the most difficult part of video format conversion. Because the NTSC frame rate is higher, it is necessary for video conversion equipment converting to NTSC to interpolate the contents of adjacent frames in order to produce new intermediate frames; this introduces artifacts, and a trained eye can quickly spot video that has been converted between formats.

I have a region free DVD player, Region 2 and Region 0 DVDs. Granted, the picture is a tiny bit less-clear than a Region 1 DVD, but it is far better than Divx or the like.
