i just received this email:

Hi, guys,

As y'all probably know, the second season of Arrested Development is being shown on FOX this summer, starting this Friday (July 29th). This is a great opportunity to introduce new viewers to the show and get them hooked on it, as well as get them up to speed so that they can really enjoy the third season when it premieres on Monday, September 19th (or, at least, that's what the FOX website is saying now). So that we can avoid the "will they / won't they" drama that surrounded Arrested Development's renewal this year, let's do everything we can to get new viewers into the show, try to improve its ratings, and do the little bit that we can to create buzz for it. If you have friends and family who don't watch Arrested Development now, the block of episodes on Friday (8 pm Eastern / 7 pm Central) are a great opportunity to introduce them to the show, because they can sit down and watch several episodes at once -- which, as we all know, is the best way to get people hooked.

Also, if you're feeling energetic, a great way to spread the word is to put up flyers in your community, particularly around college campuses. vcalzone has made some terrific new flyers, which you can find here:

(text-based, 221 Kb)

http://the-op.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=2&pos=8
(graphics-intensive, 337 Kb)

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with the thumbnails, but the files are small .pdfs, so they're easy to check out.

Thanks for your interest in the show, and I look forward to seeing you on the boards!

Cheers,
Kiarnit

Is it just me, or does this whole "Arrested Development" thing almost seem like a marketing ploy by FOX? Like the Steve Jobs style "make Ipods look cool" with grass roots advertising. Are people really going out there and putting up flyers to keep a TV show on the air?

Don't get me wrong, I like Arrested Development, but all this proselytizing to try and get people to watch a damn TV show gets on my nerves.

I agree!

When I put up posters and painted "Watch 'Grounded For Life', Fridays on FOX", they just moved it to the WB.

And then the WB cancelled it.

Seriously folks, all this hard work is for nothing.

See, in New York, there are no Neilsen families... so I don't give a shit.

Don't blame New Yorkers when they cancel The Bernie Mac Show

FOX CONNECTS TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF TELEVISION WITH PODCAST TECHNOLOGY (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/pr.cgi?id=20050728fox03)
Released by FOX

FOX CONNECTS TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF TELEVISION WITH PODCAST TECHNOLOGY

FOX Introduces "FOXCASTS" on July 28

To enrich the television experience for fans and offer on-demand audio programming, Fox Broadcasting Company is now providing podcasts of episode recaps for all its series. These "FOXCASTS" enable viewers to download audio recaps of their favorite shows to their MP3 player or listen to them on their computer anywhere, anytime.

Beginning today, a centralized web page containing every FOXCAST will be accessible from FOX.com as well as each show's individual website. Additionally, FOX will offer RSS feed subscription options, which means that users can have the podcasts automatically downloaded to the player of their choice each time a new one becomes available. "It's important to take advantage of every avenue available and talk directly to our audience," said Carolyn Gray, Vice President of New Media at FOX. "Podcasts are an emerging and important platform, and we want to be at the forefront of their application to our young and first adopter viewers."

FOX will also take the innovative technology one step further and offer DVD-style content on select shows. This will give fans access to exclusive cast interviews, special event coverage and custom audio programs. The debut of this content will coincide with the premiere of PRISON BREAK Monday, Aug. 29 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). Additionally, recaps of entire seasons of select shows such as 24 and ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, premiering Monday, Sept. 19 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), will be built into podcast packages that can be downloaded prior to season premieres.

That's kind of neato.

We reported a couple of weeks ago that e-tailers had started taking pre-orders for Arrested Development - Season 2, but that we were still waiting on details from Fox Home Entertainment about the set. We're pleased to say that we have that for you now, so let's take a look at their description of the contents:

In this 5 time Emmy-winning comedy's hilarious second season, Michael Bluth, once again determined to be free of his dysfunctional family, packs up the car and his son George-Michael and heads for Arizona. But he's soon pulled over by the police who tell him that his father, George Sr., has broken out of prison. Due to the company's shady business deal with Iraq, Michael could face prison time, so he returns home to clear his name even as George Sr. secretly flees to Mexico. Tobias decides to be an understudy for the Blue Man Group, and Lucille begins a torrid affair with her husband's twin brother, Oscar. Arrested Development Season 3 will begin airing this fall on FOX.

Disc 1:
The One Where Michael Leaves
The One Where They Build A House
iAmigos!
Good Grief
Sad Sack
Afternoon Delight
Switch Hitter
Queen For A Day

Disc 2:
Burning Love
Ready, Aim, Marry Me!
Out On A Limb
Hand To God
Motherboy XXX
The Immaculate Election
Sword Of Destiny

Disc 3:
Meat The Veals
Spring Breakout
The Righteous Brothers

The release date is October 11th. Information about bonus materials hasn't been released yet, but we've heard that there will be some on this release in addition to the 369 minutes worth of episodes. Those are going to be shown in 16x9 anamorphic widescreen video format, with English Dolby Surround Sound and subtitles in English, Spanish, and French. SRP is $39.98 in the USA and CAN$54.98 in Canada. Stay tuned and we'll have a look at the package, plus further updates for you, just as soon as Fox makes them available.

I really like the box art. I hope they don't change it, like last time. I attached it if the picture's not visible to anybody else.

There better be a shitload of bonus materials on that third disc, else there's no reason they have more than twice as many episodes squeezed onto the other two discs.

Also, TVShowsonDVD reports that Home Movies Season 3 may have the possible release date of November 15th. It'd be a 3-disc set too.
