So here is what went down on the Friday Tinkle show here in glorious Seattle.

On Friday the guest comics were Eugene Mirman, Heather Lawless, AD Miles and Demitri Martin. Demitri was definitely the best of the four guest comics. His material is much like Steven Wright or Mitch Hedberg. I memory has gone to shit and I can’t remember any of his jokes well enough to do him justice. Eugene Mirman was good, but he just did stuff that is off his cd. Heather Lawless I thought was awful. Her whole shtick was that she talked in the white trash voice and went on and on about her trashy family. It wasn’t funny at all. AD Miles had a good bit where he had a slide show with no pictures in it but would talk about them if as their were.

As far as the hosts Barry, Cross and Benjamin they were phenomenal. To my surprise Barry was definitely the Best out of the three and the great DC was probably third. They’re stuff was slightly scripted, but when it came to adlibbing Barry and Benjamin were a little better.

They opened with a funny video that showed them in New York packing to come to Seattle. David says something like “should I bring my drunk Indian” and the camera pans to a native American sitting on his couch. They end up doing a frolicking montage where they mistake Portland for Seattle and Stephen Malkmus for Eddie Vedder.

During the first half of the show there was a woman signing off to the right of the stage. When they came back on stage after I believe Heather Lawless they noticed her and started repeating the same words really fast like tsunami and making her sign them. Eventually they have her stop signing and it turns out she is deaf and she is just making up her own jokes and signing them. She starts arguing with them, using the deaf voice, and eventually she runs out of the room. The joke was funny but they kept going with it and I think the crowd became a little uncomfortable.

The hi-light for me was when Todd Barry came out into the audience to talk to people in the VIP section. Most of the tables on the main floor were purchased for $500 or $1000. Keep in mind this is a benefit show and most of the tables were purchased by Sub Pop, Music For America, and the conglomerate that is Pearl Jam. Most of the people sitting at these tables didn’t pay a dime. Anyway my boss set me up and I was the first person that Todd Barry grilled for being a VIP. I decided not to even attempt being funny knowing that you don’t try to out funny a pro and let him make fun of me for not paying for a benefit show. It was pretty awesome and I hope that I make the cut for the DVD.

I kept running into Todd Barry throughout the weekend which became a running joke between us. I ran into him at 5 different places throughout the city. I think he was stalking me.

I could keep going on about the show, but I’m sure few have made through all this. I’m sorry that this is a pretty shitty review, but if people are interested I write a little about Sunday’s show.

So Sunday’s show was with Fred Armison Sarah Vowell, Slovin and Allen, Jon Glaser, and Andy Blitz.

The best of the night was probably Jon Glaser. He did this character that was an Australian comic that Barry Cross and Benjamin had discovered on a recent trip to Australia named Wackadoo. It was reminiscent of Kedzie Matthews and was fucking hilarious.

Fred Armison came out as Saddam with guitar and spoke in an English accent. He didn’t have much of a rehearsed act. The audience would ask him questions like who’s your favorite seattle band, boxers or briefs (which we know the answer to) and stupid shit like that. He would give pretty funny answers and then start playing another song. People I was with thought it was really funny, but I wasn’t too into it.

Sara Vowell read excerpts from a magazine called Living Without which addresses the hardships of people living with food allergies. It wasn’t much different then listing to her on This American Life, but she was really funny.

Slovin and Allen I thought were pretty fucking funny. They did this set up about how you see a lot of comics do impressions but you don’t see people doing impressions as a duo. They do a scene from Rainman and you assume they one will bee Tom Cruises character and one will be Dustin Hoffman but instead they each do both characters synchronized. Then they do the same scene but as Woody Allen and Ronald Regan. Most of the time I think that the “What if Bill Cosby played Shaft, I think it would go something like this” bit is stupid but they made it work. Their next bit was they did the Who’s on first routine but instead of using the names Who and What, I don’t know etc. they used actual players names from the Yankees. They also did it in French and sign language. They were great.

That brings us to Andy Blitz who was by far the worst out of all the comics on both days. Most of his bit had to do with the new Star Wars movie. There were a few funny moments but it was really bad. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some of his stuff on Conan and he was funny so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt, but most people weren’t being as kind after the show.

Barry Cross and Benjamin were of course hilarious. They did a lot of the same bits as they did on Friday but they was enough differences to keep it fresh.

After the show I was talking with Todd Barry and he told me where they were all going after the show. So we headed to this bar called The Nightlight a few blocks down the street. It crossed my mind that he might have been fucking with me but eventually everyone from both nights showed up. It was pretty awesome. I heard that DC wasn’t being too pleasant but I got to talk a little with Eugene Mirman, Jon Benjamin and Demitri Martin. Mostly just run of the mill chit chat but it was still really cool.

Oh yeah The New Pornographers played a few songs too. They had a few sound problems but it was really cool to see them play some of my favorite songs. It was the first time I had a chance to see them, and of course Neko Case was great.

So that was my weekend. I hope that was enough to finish you off ComedySnobedy

While I enjoyed your first review, and a lot of this second one, you eventually gave me the opposite of a boner.

I have to admit, a lot of it was due to this review, but some of the result can be directly attributed to my fixation on internet porn.

Here's what I read on the internet:

Most people know that Tinkle is a comedy show, but what a lot of people don't know is that it is also a brand of pee! AMAZING!

Hope this helps!
