I've been viewing the forums for a few weeks and it seems everyone's chiming in with their favorite episodes/sketches...

What's everyone's least favorite episode/sketch?

As far as episodes go, I'd go with "A White Man Set Them Free" in Season 4...the whole episode felt really flat and while the episode is still 100 times better than most shows on TV, it just wasn't anywhere near Mr. Show standards. It's ironic that the thing that made their show so unique with having a central theme and revolving sketches around it is the one thing that really hurt it in that particular episode.

As far as sketches go, "Coupon: The Movie" didn't work for me.

(Note: It took me 45 minutes to come up with both of those choices, just to get an idea of how few really bad episodes/sketches there were...try saying the same thing for SaTURDay Night Live.

Looking forward to reading everyone's responses.

I hope I'm not assuming too much...I mean, you will write, won't you? Please...

Yeah I thought Coupon the Moive was a great premise with soe terrific parts to it. But overall it just went on for too long.

The "smuggling pot in shampoo" skit was pretty dumb, I thought. Yeah, he keeps saying "shampoo," which is the one thing he's trying to hide. OK, we get it. The punchline was lame too, and the setup was obvious, like a bad SNL bit. The sketch was also way too long

Fortunately the end of the sketch transitioned into FF Woodycook's Take Back the Streets, which was great.

It's funny because I always thought "Shampoo" was hilairious and never really cared much for the FF Woodycooks thingy. I don't mean this in a dick way--just goes to show you people's dif tastes.

It's tough for me to say, because I love the work Jack Black has done, especially with Bob and David, but I thought the Jeepers Creepers thing was a weak ending to that episode. It went on way too long and wasn't nearly as funny as the No Adults Allowed segment or the "slacker discrimination" bit that followed.

I agree with the Jeepers Creepers thing. Not only a bad ending, but a drawn out concept that's more idealistic than funny. Sometimes mixing the two can be disasterous.

I like Shampoo, the John Ennis payoff is almost worth the tedious build-up.

Sorry what i meant to say was..."If you are going to write a sketch show you are going to have some rat feces in there."

But, uh really, its all great....Philouza...as much as i love it...it should have been better....but everyone is great in it...its one of those sketches where the laughs are in the concept itself. It's one of those What the Fuck, kind of laughs....its how far they take a certain absurdity.

I'm curious-- in what way do you think it should have been better? I know Bob and David said something like that on the commentary too but they didn't go into what exactly they thought should be improved. I LOVE Philouza, and I think the only thing that's not quite up to par in it is Bob's performance. He's not bad by any means, but it just doesn't rank among his best most inspired work. David is amazing in it and john Ennis is funny. Jill is AWESOME-- I don't think she gets enough credit for her characterizations which are always really precise. And Jay as mediocrity is inspired. Maybe the character of Philouza is a little underwritten... I dunno...

Wow... I don't think I would change anything about Bob's performance as Philouza. I think his lack of enthusiasm at times is supposed to give the idea that Philouza just sort of coasts along through life in general, particularly in writing music, whereas Cellini (David) struggles to create music and has had road blocks thrown in has way ("All you've given me is drummers !!!").

Bob's facial expressions throughout the skit are hilarious. Dunno, I think the skit is probably one of their most brilliant.

The Philouza sketch is entirely based on the movie "Amadeus," so there's nothing really groundbreaking there. It's a funny sketch, and the premise is entertaining, and they would be hard-pressed to do anything to improve on it.

But I've always thought it was interesting that Bob felt David should have played the role of Philouza. It's just one of those sketches where Bob fits perfectly.

On a completely unrelated matter, has anyone ever seen a live show or met Bob and David?

Jeepers Creepers went on way too long...

Didn't care much for the "Third Wheel" thing either...

"Coupon: The Movie" sucked (although David going "I saw the shit out of it!" made it funny)...

I sound awful negative, don't I? The rest is all really good though.

I enjoyed Jeepers creepers because it was such a precise parody of Jesus Christ Superstar. I like Coupon the movie, too. Hell, I even liked the third wheel thing.

All of season one episode three was shitty.
F.F. Woodycook's sucked except for Bob's work.
New San Francisco sucked.
Biosphere sucked.
Vietnam scene sucked.
Hunger Strike sucked.
Dream of a Lifetime sucked.
Change thief sucked.
Date with the Queen sucked.

And by sucked I mean they weren't funny.

What's everyone's least favorite episode/sketch?

HATED "The Joke: The Musical". It just had the wrong feel - it reminds me of something you'd find on The Carol Burnett Show. "Performing" for a live audience. Nice choreography, but what the fock does that have to do with COMEDY? Didn't like "Voiceover King" much either, for the odd reason that those lines are actually funny! Again, the feel is all wrong - it's the type of sketch Conan or Leno or Letterman (non-performers all) would do.

Since those two were both from "What To Think", you'd expect that to be my least favourite episode. Not at all: Tankerbell and Marshall and especially Pit-Pat are wonderful! "Biggest Failure in Mr. Show History?" Well, it should be obvious!

(Need a clue? Think "Iguana")

Oh, and in the loved-by-everyone-but-me category, I really didn't enjoy "Super Pan." Wifebeaters aren't funny, unless their name is Andy Capp!.

I always hated the "Alive" parody where Bob eats all the plane crash survivors. It just annoys me. So does Mel Brooks.

iguana kill weenis for that.

i think the plane crash one would be funny if it were before he eats them and he is trying to feed them grains and inject them with hormones to make them fat and juicy. the passengers keep refusing to take the injections, they complain that the grains are flavorless, and bob gets really mad all the time about their disobedience, and the fact that they are eating candy bars and drinking soda. he keeps trying to put the children in cages like veal, using the excuse that they need discipline just like non-plane crash surviving kids.

Wow - I think every scene mentioned so far is excellent. Many are among my favorites.

But I agree about "A White Man Set them Free", it's my least favorite episode of Mr. Show too.

Scenes I don't find particularly funny:
"The Burgundy Loaf"
"The Limits of Science"
"Inside the Actor"

Scenes I like but feel go on too long:
"New San Francisco"
"Blind House"
"Hunger Strike"

I HATE the super pan sketch. I acknowledge it's not the worst, but it really, really annoys me.

I think that the super pan was really good, but could have been a little shorter. How can you hate "It was developed by astronauts who quit the space program to devote their lives to making pans!"
That is probably not the exact quote but you get the point.

NANCY I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO THROW THE OLD PANS AWAY

in addition to the word "bribbles"

the only part i dont like is when david says "im going to go take a shit"

oh no i've been suckered into this pointless discussion. fuck. i was just making fun of this thread to myself.

The one where Bob is an african safari fuck and has nipples on his ass and scrotums on his body. I'm pretty sure that was the weakest sketch in season 4.

at least that sketch had the line "You don't know what words mean, do you?" in it. The clumsy waiter sketch had no good lines.

Yeah, but in the clumsy waiter sketch, you can clearly see the outline of Bob's semi-erect cock.

The Hemingway sketch is great goddammit, and the clumsy waiter bit isn't that bad either.

The phone sex sketch is probably the 4th season's worst.

Yer all a bunch of tards. Everest is by far the biggest waste of teeth gnashing time in sketch comedy history. It came on HBO when I had just been ranting about Mr. Show's awesomeness to some unintiated friends. They looked at me like I had shit for brains and I've been pissed at that crap sketch ever since.

thanks fer listenin'!
