It depends. Probably -- I'm going to stay in Texas until my Grandma dies, 'cause it's going to be real soon... So, yea... If I'm here still, I'll go.

I think that this tour is being made into a documentary (or already has been?) also called COMEDIANS OF COMEDY. It's directed by MELVIN GOES TO DINNER-screenwriter Michael Blieden and just premiered at the SXSW Film Festival (wonder if SBJ saw it?). Here's a little blurb about it:
"The Comedians of Comedy is the result of an entirely differently kind of idealism. The film documents a tour organized by comedian Patton Oswalt, who takes to the road with his friends, Brian Posehn, Zach Galifianakis, and Maria Bamford. The group tours indie rock venues, however, rather than conventional comedy clubs. As Oswalt explains, the idea behind the switch is to develop a different sense of comedy among audiences. His idea is to foster a following for himself and his fellow comedians more akin to the fan following of rock bands, who might be more willing to appreciate experiment and development, rather than demand a consistent punchline or catch phrase. Oswalt and company are quick to indict the "safe" comedy of those artists who play for easy laughs in order to secure sitcom and movie deals. Beyond this aesthetic stance, though, the film's narrative is content simply to record the shenanigans of the comedians as they move from town to town. Visiting comic book shops in their spare time, the comedians spend their time on stage offering up jokes about skinhead abortions, dead puppies, and voting for undeserved anal rape over George Bush. Clearly, there's very little about the comedy showcased that's intended for prime time audiences, which makes for material that's both refreshing and, for most of the indie-minded audience, pretty funny. The Comedians of Comedy is a godsend, finally, for anyone who waxes suicidal at the mention of Jeff Foxworthy's "you might be a redneck" routine. Its jokes are for outsiders, by outsiders -- an indie ethos that, for South by Southwest's audiences, was only too well received."

Hey, homo, I thought all of you were up-to-date on my whereabouts.
I came to Texas this week to attend SXSW. Patton got myself and another guy in for free to see the premiere of the documentary last Sunday, on grounds that we promote the hell out of it and the live show on Monday night.
It's fucking amazing. I watched it again last night.
It's basically half clips of stand-up, and half behind-the-scenes backstage stuff. It's really good.
It follows around Patton, Zack, Brian and Maria for a week and a half on the tour that they did last summer.
I'm not good at reviews. But, yes, if you get a chance to see this (I know for sure it'll at least have a DVD -- it was produced by Netflix -- and at the premiere they showed extra footage they couldn't include in the movie due to ratings, said it'd be 'on the DVD') then you need to see it.
Zach was my favorite part of the movie. It was all great though, and everyone was unbelievably hilarious.
The End.

That all sounded really cool, though. I've gotta check it out next year.

I don't have any pictures to post at this time, but I'm 6'1" and weigh about 70 pounds with my shoes on. Also, here's a short list of people whom I've been told I look like by complete strangers over the last three years: the lead singer of Pavement, the lead singer of Weezer, and Topher Grace from "That 70s Show".
However, since I don't actually look like any of those people, just shout out my username a bunch of times and whoevers face is turning red, that's me.

Sorry, Julie. I was there. Up front. Got there 5 minutes before the show started. It was packed. I was really trashed (which I'm never doing again before a comedy show -- it almost ruined it for me). I looked at so many different girls thinking they were you (and some not thinking they were you). I asked one if her name was Julie and she replied: "Uhh... what?" Was that you on the front speaker with dark-rimmed glasses? Fuck, I really tried to look for you two but it was so crowded and we had to leave like 5 minutes after. The show was incredible. Dave Anthony is so awesome. Zach and Brian. Oh man, they were great. Patton... eh. Still feel the same way about him. Sorry. Best show I've ever seen though.
I'll break my internet code of ethics and PM you a pic of myself. Fuck. But we will meet sometime in the near future.

Oh, God - You weren't the "DO IT!" "BLACK ANGUS!" guy, were you?
Best part of the show: A woman in the back, during Zach's set, yelled out, "PATTON OSWALT!" to which everyone 'awwwed' for Zach. Then another woman yelled out, "I heard he has a tiny dick!" and Zach made fun of her for being the worst heckler ever, and then another woman, to the left of me, said, "I KNOW he has a tiny dick cause I fucked him!" Zach looked in the direction to where the woman was standing and I presumed he saw her, 'cause she was this insanely fat, ugly Mexican woman, and he said, "How'd he lure you into the bedroom, by promising tons of candy and then saying, 'Sorry fat woman theres no candy in here'" or something like that. I asked him later if he saw that the woman was fat and he felt bad and said he didn't know she was fat, but then he burst into laughter. Ha. Ha. Hahahahsdhah ;ddcfvf HAAHSDHA DF;SFLDFGVNDXFGFCG,HHB

Oh, God. I am so fucking hungry and tired.
Who's ready to hang out with me in New York in two weeks? Hoooraye. gtv

I remember all of that very well. I didn't see what the "Candy" woman looked like, but that was one of the best parts of the show. I think the "Black Angus" guy you were referring was that red-bearded guy who was heckling througout the entire thing, who was standing next to my friend. At first I found him annoying but I htink he just made the show a lot funnier. And Patton IS pretty funny when he's not doing scripted stuff but just making fun of drunk people in the audience.
EDIT: still can't understand why people would be yelling to see PAtton when Zach is on. remember that "DR PEPPER!" --"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" That was great.

Zach wasn't on his game last night. He TOTALLY didn't do the voice of the guy who talks way too much about the garfield movie right.
And Odie's up to his old tricks again.

Apparently I must have brought a camera to the show and taken a picture because I found this today:
EDIT: I remember that I was aiming it at Zach, thought I'd heard it snap, brought the camera down and THEN saw it flash. People with cameras at these kind of things can look like dicks so I didn't bother trying for another shot.

scotch-romanian
04-20-2005, 10:31 PM
i'm not in the picture. you do know how a camera works, right?
but sorry, i wanted to take at least one picture. preferrably of zach (which i tried to do) because he was the most awesome.
anyway, here's something patton said about the show on his website:
"Houston is a good reminder to anyone—and I'm talking to you, Darfur refugees!—that there's always a crappier place than where you're living. You hear me, Brazilian street children? I mean, there's always a level below yours. Okay, maggots living inside the festering bunghole of a dead crack whore?
Okay, it's not that bad. A crack whore's bunghole doesn't have a Starbucks, for starters. Houston was the first night of the tour—Friday, April 15th. Mary Jane's Fat Cat, which I think is two drug references, an archaic slang term for oral sex, and probably three trucker euphemisms for getting a rim job after a bacon and cheese taquito.
The place was packed. It reminded me of the theater in ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. People peed outside, drunks yelled heckles that didn't even come within spitting distance of rationality. One heckler said something that sounded like "jappacunt" but leave in only the vowels.
It was great. My clothes still smell like cigarettes. Now, old bowling players want to fuck me."
heheh i heart me too.

I don't know why you're being a cock now, or how my friends were being "fanboys." Chris had met Patton last month in Austin, and Patton got Tommy in to the show in Houston for free.
If anything, you were the dude wearing the Mr. Show shirt at the Brian Posehn show, and who barely talked the entire night.

Yes, I really enjoy Dave Anthony. He's so angry and bitter towards something. I love his joke about the drunken prostitute that propositioned him.
"Want to fuck?"
"No."
"Faggot."
Those are some terrible options.
