Maybe he thought you put the question mark in the wrong place. As in, "Anyone out there? Go to this." That way he might have thought that since, yes, he was out there, then you were directing him to go it. And obviously that had happened yesterday, so he then made the time travel remark.

Yes, I misread the title, it doesn't help though that you used the future tense in your description of the show:
