Shut Up, You Fucking Baby. I'm sure you meant music CDs, but David Cross's voice is music to my ears anyday.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pray for you all before my David Cross statue... then fuck it.

A couple months ago The Arcade Fire played at the Halifax Pop Explosion, and they were really, good. This may be because they played after The Organ (or the Bore-gan, who are good but live i think they brought many of the folks in the audience down.) The Arcade Fire really brought everyone up again, e.g. made them less sad. Since then i've seen alot of positive reviews on them, which one such as myself has become sceptical of, but the CD is really really good. Does anyone else have an opinion on The Arcade Fire?

Oh man the Eels rule. If youlike "Beautiful Freaks" then you should pick up "Daisies of the Galaxy". That album is boss. "Electro-Shock Blues" is decent but "Daisies..." is the way to go.
You may want to check out E's solo stuff too, "A Man Called (E)" and "Broken Toy Shop".
As for what Im listening to, there are a couple that I have in my MP3 player actually.
"Hell Below, Stars Above" - The Toadies
"Rubberneck" - The Toadies
"Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy" - Mindless Self Indulgence
"Zoo Hypothesis" - Tubring
"One Hot Minute" - RHCP
"October Rust" - Type O Negative

Thanks! How about "Hootenany"? Also, where can I find the song about "damn, it's a beautiful day" (something like that?) I have been told is on the "Road Trip" soundtrack? Is that one on one of their albums or just that soundtrack? Is the soundtrack any good, if I'm forced to buy it?

"Hootenany" is good too but "Daisies..." is better. Plus, "Daisies..." has the song that you are thinking of. Its called "Mr. E's Beautiful Blues". There are some songs that he does that, I think, you can only get on soundtracks(i.e. My Montser and Me from Shrek) but "Mr. E's..." is not one of them. If you want that song, then buy "Daisies...." Some of my favs from that album are "Its a MotherFucker", "Flyswatter", "A Daisy Through Concrete" and "Mr. E's..."
Goddamn right its a beautiful day.

my big problem with the used isnt so much musically as what they are doing, they have all these parts where they say shit, like the singer will yell out random things about being with these kids listening to the music, like knowing what they are going through, but it just sounds so contrived to me, the music that always spoke to me the most was the shit that didnt try and reach out to me, the stuff that meant something to me when i dug into it deeper, especially in relation to the goings on of my life
i'd be hard pressed to tell you what my taste is, i know it sounds corny but i like music that is good, i dont care what genre
my top 5 current albums im listening to right now are:
jay z- the black album
broken social scene - you forgot it in people
boards of canada- geogaddi
john brion- i heart huckabees soundtrack
the beach boys- pet sounds
my top tastes usual vary depending on how shits going in my life, lately im really identifying with the i heart huckabees soundtrack, because lately im torn between my belief that everything isnt real, and my paranoid delusions that we are living in the end of days and man has begun the steady and quick fall down the hill to extinction

e is also in that "Girls Guitar Club" short film briefly. There a link to it somewhere on these boards.
I've been working on a lot of my own music lately. There's this program called GarageBand for the Mac that kicks ASS. Might not be the greatest thing for making a real, releasable album, but it makes it SO easy to work out ideas and arrangements. I've got ProTools for more real recordings. But there's a new version of GarageBand on the way shortly that makes me wonder if I'll have any need for ProTools at all.
Haven't purchased a lot of music lately. I try not to pay more than $10 for a new CD, but that's becoming increasingly difficult. No reason a CD should cost more than 10 bucks. I've gotta make my way out to a store that sells used shit one of these days. (Also increasingly difficult to find.) I need to pick up Interpol, Wilco, Eagles of Death Metal... I can't think of anything else. I'm way out of that loop these days. OH! I also need to find the latest Fan Modine album!! I'm sure no one knows what I'm talking about, but Fan Modine's "Slow Road to Tiny Empire" is one of my favorite albums ever. The new album was supposed to have come out YEARS ago. I guess the mix had to be just perfect. Anyway, now it's been out several months and I still haven't gotten around to getting it. I'm sure I won't find it locally. Someone tell me they know what the hell I'm talking about.

I was at a used CD store yesterday and scored big time. I found "South of Heaven" by Slayer and the soundtrack to Werner Herzog's film "Nosferatu" by the band Popol Vuh.
You may be thinking, "Big deal Klaus... I can just go to Tower or Virgin and get those CDs (well, probably not Nosferatu) any time I want!" That may be true, my scrupulous friends... but good luck finding them used. It is the fact the I found them used which is so wonderful.
If any of you plan on coming to NYC ever, go to Academy Records on 18th street between 6th and 7th aves. It is a small store but they are loaded with obscure, rare, imported jazz, rock, country, and soundtrack CDs. They also have any classical record or CD you can think of. Cheap.

POSTAL SERVICE!!! That shit is wierd. My girlfriend has been listening to that non-stop. It totally sounds like video game music with the guy from Fountains of Wayne, singing emo lyrics. I almost like it. Almost. Although, I think that if I actually tried to sit down and listen to it that I would fall asleep.

i don't have FGWSSS because i always forget to look for it when i'm in a store. i've heard that its better than tight, but tight is really good.
also, do you have the left rights? i wonder if they're any good.....
NaturesOnions
01-13-2005, 10:28 PM
Yeah, I do. Tight is good but its only like 9? songs as compared to FGWSSS's 30 songs although the song "Tornado" is the shit. MSI is amazing live too. I've seen them twice. I drove about 200 miles to see them the first time. You should hear thier live album. I think its called "Alienating Our Audience" or something like that
The Left Rights sound almost exaclty like MSI. I mean, Jimmy Urine and Steve Righ wrote all of MSI's songs and the same thing goes for The Left Rights. It only figures that they would sound the same.
But yeah MSI is fairly unheard of and they are an aquired taste.

Type O Negative is hilarious, by the way. I used to crack up when people would talk about actually finding them frightening. It's like, how can you miss that it's all a big JOKE? Listen to "Black No. 1"! Black No. 1 is HAIR DIE!
Yeah you wanna go out 'cause it's raining and blowing.
You can't go out 'cause your roots are showing.
Dye em black.
Black no. 1
And then they've got this combination of "The Munsters" & "The Adams Family" themes in the bridge...
My brother had that album. We were both still living at our parents' house at the time. He was playing "Christian Woman", I think, and the album version was a bit longer than what they played on the radio. So I stopped in his room to hear it, because it was new to me. During an extended (and unnecessary) musical interlude, Peter Steele grumbles the word "SUPERFLUOUS!" I started cracking up. My brother's like, "What? What's 'superfluous' mean?"

Thats the funny thing, they are making fun of themselves basically. I dont think many people get that. The whole Bloody Kisses album is making fun of goth people. Songs like Kill All The White People and Black No.1, its a joke. People think that they are trying to be really goth when in reality they are making fun of goths. That and The Kill Bill Vol. 2 and (dare I say) The Phantom of the Opera movie soundtracks.

The Arcade Fire is the greatest thing I've ever experienced. I've seen them both times they came to Austin. A few days ago they were on SBJ's favorite show. yes at the show he sang this song about george bush talking to god which was pretty poignant and angry. and he apologized to canada for him and told us to run for cover because you would eventually get around to beating the crap out of us.
you'll love this...
"When The President Talks To God"
when the president talks to god
are the conversations brief or long?
does he ask to rape our womens' rights
or to send poor farm kids off to die?
will the president recommend an oil hike
when the president talks to god?
when the president talks to god
are the words he chooses hard or soft?
does he resolute all down the line?
is every issue black or white?
does what god say ever change his mind
when the president talks to god?
when the president talks to god
does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
agree which convicts should be killed?
where the prison's built and filled?
which voter fraud must be concealed
when the president talks to god?
when the president talks to god
I wonder which one plays the better cop
we should find some jobs. the ghetto's broke
no, they're lazy, George, I say we don't
just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke
that's what god recommends
when the president talks to god
do they drink beer and go play golf
when they pick which country should we invade
and which heathen souls still can be saved?
yeah I guess god just calls a spade a spade
when the president talks to god
when the president talks to god
does he ever think that maybe he's not?
that that voice is just inside his head
when he kneels next to the presidential bed
does he ever smell his own bullshit
when the president talks to god?

DAFT PUNK!!! Its been a while since I heard anyone else talk about Daft Punk. Have you ever heard of Coldcut or Meat Beat Manifesto? Those are two artists that got me around to listening to DP. Also, Josh Wink is cool. That is, if you like that kind of music. Which I do.

Yeah Onions, I hear you. I was really into the whole Ninja Tunes thing for a while. It all started when someone gave me a copy of the 2 CD set Fungkungfusion. From there I got way into Coldcut, DJ Food, Amon Tobin et al....
Incidentally I highly recommend Fungkungfusion as a great introduction to that whole genre of music. There's some turds in the set, but there are also some unbelievable gems.
Good call, Natures Onions.

The Arcade Fire's album Funeral should really be listened to as such. But if you have to break it up go for Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), Neighborhood #2 (Laika). You know what, the four Neighborhoods are the four best songs on the album. Wake Up is a great song; it's what they began their shows with.
Haiti, Une Annee Sans Lumiere, and Backseat have sort of a different feel to them.
But I really love all their songs. Funeral is definitely my favorite album ever. Maybe if I hadn't seen their show twice I'd feel different. The sheer and absolute greatness of The Arcade Fire playing live cannot be underestimated.

Hey thanks. I think I may have heard that. Didnt they put that on the Lost Highway soundtrack? Is that the soundtrack that I am thinking of? Hmmmm.....its the one that NIN did "The Perfect Drug" for. I know that MBM was on whatever album that was cuz my buddy had it and was really into NIN and I was really into MBM and it was cool to see them both on one album. I think they had the "Closer" cover on there. I am most probably mistaken but yeah, I do think I remember that...I mean, that was like what, 6 or 7 years ago when that came out. I suddenly feel old.

When I was 12-13 I had this friend that was like 16-17, and he was really into Orb/MBM/Aphex Twin. He is pretty much the reason I love drugs. I stopped hanging out with him though because he was like 18 and I was 14 and he was doing coke and trying to get me to do it, and that was back when I was a total chickenshit. SB GUY: You know who you look like?
ME: Who?
SB GUY: You know Pavement?
ME: Uh, no. Are they a band or something?
SB GUY: Yes! You look like Stephen [BLANK] from Pavement.
ME: Oh yea?
SB GUY: Yeah.
ME: I guess I'll check them out.
SB GUY: Oh, you have to. [BLANK] is the greatest album ever.
ME: Heh.
SB GUY: Stephen [BLANK], that's you.
ME: Okay.

Is there a hotter video performance out there than Fiona Appple in "Criminal?" My initial feeling is that no, there is not. Also, how about that voice of hers?

I eagerly await their new one and the 5.1 audio mix of "The Soft Bulletin."
Sometimes I like to listen to earlier stuff more though.

#2. New album? Sweet! Actually I've only listened to their old stuff in small amounts. Whats yr favorite flaming lips album brain? I will buy it.

Either
"The Soft Bulletin"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00000JR3S.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Or the collection of their first 4 LPs (and bonus tracks), "Finally the Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid"
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006FX66.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
The Soft Bulletin is closer to the Yoshimi sound. Finally the Punk Rockers... is radically different. They play a lot of out there noise rock and psychedelic punk rock. So, a bunch of tracks are unlistenable (in my opinion), but there are some definite gems.

Yeah I know I can't even explain why I like it so goddamn much. Sparse production + vocal quirkiness usually equals instant garbage, and most of the other shit from the "antifolk" scene I've heard is unlistenable pretentious masturbation, but goddamn Soviet Kitsch just fucking does it for me. Plus I totally want Regina to sit on my face. Did you see her on Conan a couple weeks ago? Christ what a looker.
