I think Bob would be perfect to replace Conan when he heads to the Tonight Show.

we talked about this a bit when it was first announced i think. most people wouldnt get bobs sense of humor and he would be a sure failure. if you remember when he co-hosted kimmel last year, the audiance didnt find him the least buit amusing, and he seemed very alienated. now, conan's audiance may be more likley to accept him, but only about half of the crowd laughed last time he was on.

I'm still angry they chose Craig Ferguson AKA Drew Carey's Mr. Wick to replace Kilborn instead of Michael Ian Black! Oh well, I guess they had a long tradition of unfunny hosts.

MICHAEL IAN BLACK is the SHIT!!! The State rocked the gold tooth. Now there is a skit comedy that they need to put on dvd.
I'm outta Hhhheeerrrrrreeeeeeee

.....like oliver twist without the twist.

Did you guys also talk about what Conan is going to be like at 10:30? I think they're going to completely kill any sense of humor and individuality he has. I reallly didn't like that announcement.

I don't think he'll be as good. He sure as hell will better than Leno though.

Conan will have trouble with an LA audience.

Unless they spend the next 6 years easing him into the unfunny Leno style.. it will be tough...

because Conan is cool without trying... and in Hollywood, that's not cool.

Leno used to be considered cutting edge as a comic in his early days.

I think the key words there are "used to be".

That's an interesting idea, but I don't think it would work. Conan started out as a naturally uptight preppie kid from Boston but over the years, he's really loosened up and become a very, very good host in terms of interacting with guests. One thing he does probably better than any other comic is self-ingratiation. You get the sense that he really is humble, that he doesn't think of himself as a big shot, and that actually seems to put guests at ease.

Honestly, I don't think Bob has anything similar going for him...I don't see him being as personable or getting along as well with the wide range of guests he'd need to get along with to have a successful talk show. He seems like he'd also start out uptight, just like Conan, but for different reasons (frankly, I think he's very bitter towards Hollywood, and probably justifiably so), and I don't think he'd make a good enough impression to make waiting for him to learn how to unwind seem worthwhile for the show's fans.

Also, (and if this post didn't make you angry enough, this next part will) Bob is getting on in years. Conan started in, I believe, his mid 30's, while Bob is now in his early 40's (I think), and will be in his mid-to-late when Conan vacates the late night spot. If nothing else, the youth and inexperience gave Conan much more energy and willingness to try new things (which is why Conan's show has produced so many hilarious bits).

I've been a big fan of Conan for some years (of course due in no small part to the fantastic writing of guys like Bob, David, and Dino) but I just feel that Conan was at a much better point in his life to take to that gig than Bob would be now, or in the few years from now when Conan leaves New York. Just my opinion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Bob or David ever wrote for Conan. Dino, yes.

Anyway, Conan's style is just one example of how to do a talk show. Remember the guy Conan replaced? I don't think he was big on the whole Hollywood thing. (What ever happened to him, anyway? I wish he was doing CBS's "Late Show" instead of that guy they've got now!) Also, consider Howard Stern. Bob's not the same kind of style as either of those two, granted. I'm just saying, there's more than one way to skin your knee, or some stupid shit like that.

Having said all that, I still can't picture Bob doing a talk show. But who knows. It was hard to picture Conan doing a talk show during the first couple years of his talk show...

Are you referring to Tom Snyder?

I wouldn't want Bob's talents wasted on a talk show anyway. I like his characters too much to care about him interviewing "stars". The whole idea of Bob hosting the show is very BUTMcentric. Whoever said he would have a shot in hell of getting that job? I don't think Bob would even be the best choice from Mr. Show to do a talk show. The best talk show hosts were never overwhelmingly successful at anything before becoming a host.

Looks like he wrote the first year. Why didn't I remember that? I'll hand in my BUTM iron on patch and official David Cross bald wig in the morning.

i disagree/agree bob would rock as conan especially if they did his hair like conan and bob always knocked over his mic like conan does.
i think late night is going to suck in the year 3000 or whenever the switcheroo is going down.
