The thing says we're supposed to use this section to talk about Benny Hill, so here goes.

What's your favorite Benny Hill sketch? My favorite is the one where he wears the sailor suit and sits on a park bench.

I like any Benny Hill skit involving the use of dummies. Really bad dummies falling and getting messed up cracks me up every time.

i like the one where he chases people in fast motion and that song plays and it goes like "dum dum dum dumdumdumdumd dum dum dum dumdum dum dum dum dum dum dum-dum dum-dum dum dum dum dumdumdumdumd dum dum dum dumdum dum dum dum dum dum dum-dum dum-dum dum duh dum duh duh duh"

That episode is extremely rare. You must have the Compleat Benny Hill Platinum Criterion Collection Laserdisk. Can I borrow it? I hear the ultra rare 'Benny leering at women' skit is on that one.

Interesting point of note: Benny Hill has fathered more than 30 children. Nine of which all come from the same mother: ONE OF HIS OTHER DAUGHTERS!

I believe that there is a bootleg of a rare perfomance did while wearing a military uniform. He hardly ever did this bit so if you find you are a lucky mofo.

I'm not gonna sell my Mr. Show DVDs...I just love them way too much.

I'll just rent some Benny Hill DVDs...will that be sufficient enough?

Have you not listened to the commentaries? Bob and David clearly mention Benny Hill as an inspiration. And one time Bob said that being referred to as "a modern day Benny Hill" was the highest compliment anyone had ever paid him, or something along those lines.

tjamick
12-14-2004, 03:28 AM
it was david that said it, but yeah, mr shows roots are like 90% benny hill, 7% tradgedy, and 3% robin williams.

Gogo

But didn't David also say, in the commentary, that when Biz Markie mentioned that Mr. Show and Benny Hill were the two funniest shows to him, that Biz Markie giveth then taketh away (meaning that David doesn't think Benny Hill is that great)?

tjamick
12-14-2004, 03:37 AM
what he ment by that was that the fact that it came out of biz markie's mouth was a bit of an insult to say the least.

Treebeard
12-14-2004, 03:40 AM
Would YOU like to be complimented by Biz Markie? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Gogo
12-14-2004, 03:43 AM
Then how did Biz Markie "giveth" in the first place?

Because I thought the "giveth" was Biz Markie saying Mr. Show was great and the "taketh" was comparing Mr. Show to Benny Hill...

tjamick
12-14-2004, 03:44 AM
it was a complement, thus "givith", but it was from biz markie.

Exactly. It's nice to hear good things about yourself and to be compared to someone you respect so much, but when you consider the source, you begin to doubt the validity of it.

For fuck sake...Did you even listen to the commentary?

It's a compliment to be told your show is one of TWO shows someone loves, but when the other show blows (ie Benny Hill) it becomes an insult.
Get it?

Yeah, see, that's what I thought too when I heard the commentary...

Now I'm confused which one is right...

Why would you trust a guest who apparently hates Benny Hill and Mr. Show vs. two regular posters who love Mr. Show?

That's were this site loses it's unity. When people stop and think.

Benny Hill did some stuff that was so ahead of his time.

If you do get a chance to see the platinum series (good luck finding it).... watch some of the behind the scenes documentary first. (watch it first!) it will give you so much more respect for the gags they pulled off.

Actaully you MIGHT be able to rent a copy of the platinum set.

When I saw David in New York he talked about getting a chance to meet one of Benny Hills kids, and he wasn't fucking around, so I can confirm he's a big fan.

Sorry for the long rant. Ignorance just pisses me off.

(Tj, nice song! LOL)

It's not that I don't trust TJ and Treebeard or that I'm so ignorant that'd I rather believe what a guest says rather than two regular posters; it's just when I first heard the commentary where David mentioned Biz Markie and Benny Hill, I had the same assumption that the guest had...

But if you saw David live saying it was an honor to meet Benny Hill's kids and you knew he wasn't fucking around, then maybe I must have heard it wrong...

I'm sorry I made the wrong assumption.

Benny Hill was shown for years on PBS right along side of Monty Python, an undeniable tribute to it's quality, that even reckless guests with agendas cannot dispute.

Anyone remember the one where Benny smacks the shit outta the old bald man's head? Hilarious!

Years later, Andy Dick and Dino Stamatopolous paid tribute to this innovative brilliance with their violently over the top rendition of "Who's on First".

Benny Hill was THE MAN.

I like Benny Hill. It doesn't play so well lately but back in the day it was good quality fun.

Again, it's not that I believe everything that guests say, it's that what the guest thought is what I first thought David was trying to say when I heard the commentary on "Show Me Your Weenis!"....

BEFORE I even read the guest's opinion.

*sigh* But I'm over it.
