135 candidates are on the recall ballot, but hundreds more failed to qualify. Tonight we profile one man and his dream to lead California. Come October 7, there will be no hanging chads for Don Novello. His campaign headquarters in the old "Purple Onion" comedy club has shut down.
That's because Novello failed to qualify for the ballot when most of the signatures he gathered in the produce section of his Marin County supermarket turned out to be invalid.
"I knew after 10 minutes of trying to get signatures, that it was gonna be the hardest part about being governor," he says. "But I didn't think that it would be the end of my governorship."
