View Full Version : Split about Run Ronnie Run...
I have a question for the people here who have seen RRR:
Is it really worth renting or buying?
I've heard mixed reviews about it (from this board and other people) and David and Bob have both said it's only okay and not that good....so I don't know...would it ruin my image about Bob and David if I see it?

Go and rent it, it's worth it. Bob and David got cheated out of the editing process, and the guy from dumb and dumber edited it. The company wanted to make a movie that appeals to all, and not just the small demographic of mr show fans. As a result, some of the film is a running gag that gets real old, but there is enough Bob and David genius in there to make it worth buying, and the soundtrack is priceless.

You can get a copy of the soundtrack for free!... there is a link on this board somewhere....
search for "Run Ronnie Run" on the board and you'll find the thread....
AS for the movie,
Bob actually says "don't buy it"... you can find an interview on the bobanddavid.com website where he goes into more detail.
I bought it, and find it okay. It's not as bad as they make it sound.
The Mr. Show aspects are obvious, and they are funny...
The hollywood stuff (jack frost) really slows it down. God that man is a moron.
In his defence, he did some amazing, amazing work on the actual show... but the movie he fucked up.
My advice: go to your local blockbuster, ask if you can buy their rental copy for 10 bucks... otherwise rent it.
If you buy it, only buy it because you are an obsessive fan, dont' buy it because you think you're getting an amazing movie.

At Blockbuster I think it costs like 3-4 bux to rent a movie. If you buy a movie, they usually top out at 20 bux.
I think if you are considering watching the movie more than once, you should buy it. If you are a movie buff, it's a good movie to have in your ammo pack. It's worth buying.

or you can just download it and burn it onto a cd.

ahhh buy that shit! Come off it and spend a few...you'll want to watch the marrypoppins kick in the cunt video at least once a week;) not to mention the music video on the special features...damn baby!

the mary poppins part was stupid. The only good joke was when the dude at the end says "that was a bad example, as that scene was cut due to time contstraints, not because of content"... the video itself doesn't have a good joke.

Why it's worth it:
- The animated "Welcome to the movies" clip is before the movie starts is really funny. I mean, a toilet licking its lips...c'mon!!
- Jack Black singing " A Kick in the Cunt"
- The "gay conspiracy" scene is smart, and hilarious. Pure Mr Show.
- The Three Times One Minus One scene (and song) is priceless. The actual scene in the movie's better than the Music Video in Special Features
- There's a GREAT deleted scene with Jay Johnston (according to David, it's the best scene in the whole movie- which of course means it was cut out)
- The scene between Bob and David when Terry visits Ronnie in jail is really funny - smart in how dumb it is.
- The faux Jackie Chan style "bloopers" at the end of the movie are really funny.
Sure, the movie's not great- (it's true that editing fucked it up) but it's definitely worth seeing, and I think owning. My suggestion? Buy it used on E-bay, or some other auction site..
Since Bob and David gave up producer credits (to jack frost's insistance) they get little or no money from those dvd sales. So, buying it won't really help them in any way

i bought it and as it turns out, bob and david were right. it isn't good. i sold the dvd to some used dvd store. there's only half a handful of moments that really produce an authentic mr.show laugh. what a waste. send troy miller anthrax or something.

It's there! Deleted scene #3 "Stunt Family Robertson". Jay is hilarious.

Oh, wait - yea, I remember. That WAS my favorite scene in the not-movie.
"Take away their hotdog."

"I dunno, faggot." - Dart Shitter.
Just saw it for the first time last night.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It's pretty alright. I think I'm gonna watch it a few more times though....hey, maybe even buy it (if I can find somewhere where they sell this flick cheap). But overall it's okay. Good music, great deleted scenes. The story is somewhat all over the place but I guess that has to do with the editing.
It won't let me edit my above post. *sigh*
Anyways, I was gonna add that my two favorite cameos are:
Jack Black (just cuz of that song-brilliant) and, of course, Trey & Matt
"Showbiz forever."
"Forever!"
BTW, is that Cross doing Chow-Chow's voice?

I actually don't like Green Day that much. I'm not sure why I chose this username. It's probably because I hate myself.

I look at it this way. I've spent 10 bucks on worse things. I'm sure you can find it for that much on ebay or something. I dont think it was that bad. Again, I've pissed away money on worse things.(Ol' Ironsides)

i think RRR is a great way to lure somebody into mr show. we all pretty much agree it's not the quality we'd expect from B&D but to an outsider it's great. so if you have any friends that aren't into mr show and you want them to be, show them the movie but don't force it on them.
RRR to mr show is like weed to acid

I bought this one as part of some kind of Amazon.com "Buy 17 DVDs for $1 each" deal and even though I got it cheap, I want my money back.
I know Bob & David said the movie suffered from a serious hackjob but I don't see how any of its other material could possibly have been funny on its own, even if it had been allowed to run (instead of being cut against Bob's and David's will). David Koechner's character had only one joke, a really unfunny running gag, Tom's Trey Brakish "news reporter who keeps messing up" bit was painfully unfunny, and the "fat kid who kicks ass" thing was so stupid it was offensive. Especially beating up famous on-screen tough guy R. Lee Ermey.
Seriously, in any context, with any writing, how could anybody on the planet ever think stuff like "fat kid who kicks ass" was anything other than complete garbage? It doesn't matter if the movie was hacked to bits before it ran, nothing could've made those bits funny.
I laughed, I think, twice, neither strong ones. Once was at the "been there done that" sign that Andy Richter points to, I forget the second time. Also, Jay's only appearance in the movie, which was also terrible, was cut, so Mr. Johnston didn't even get what little regular screen time was available.

you didn't laugh when the bob and brian are watching the tape of the small blooper from the infomercial?
that was funny.

maybe to us, but alot of people didnt know who the hell they were untill that album came out. i heard about them from my friend (the same one that told me about mr. show) about 3 months before it came out.
with all of jack blacks movies, i don't know if there's gonna be another album anytime soon. a TTOMO disc would be great as well. or maybe even a disc with songs by C.S. Lewis Jr., Titannica, 2001: a new wave space godessy, etc.

Hey, who can we get to work with David so they can be AC/DC? Anthony Clark? Adam Carolla? Andrew Cassese?

There was a hint at an in-joke about video game turning kids to violence in the lyrics of the rock song (if you follow video games at all, you'll know that politicians like to periodically accuse video games of warping children and making them violent). Maybe they could've gone somewhere with it, but it wouldn't have been a funny somewhere. It was also really obvious the kid would snap at some point anyway (being a fat kid no one except Ronnie took seriously, and who got bullied by his dad who became governor).
The sequence with the fat kid flying around beating the crap out of everyone was like an awful reverse-payoff. You expected something terrible and got worse. Powerful worse.
If you're referring to the infomercial blooper with Bret, no, that wasn't funny either. It might've been better if it was set up with Fantastic Newness (Magi-Collar, Fabu-Leg, etc.) or something, which it very well could've been and gotten edited out, but on its own, it sucked pretty bad.

If you mean in Run Ronnie Run, then I'm there with you. They used the "like a pirate in the night" line in the lyrics, but otherwise nothing special about it.

I thought it was going to take a real long time for them to send me the soundtrack, so I had them send it to my apt. I'm at my parents' home (in Harrisburg, PA) until school starts next Monday and the soundtrack is already at my apartment :(. Sucks having to wait.

On a side note,
idea for a sketch:
you know how buildings skip the 13th floor because it's evil or whatever....
well next year is 2006... so June 6th, will be 06/06/06.. or possibly seen as "666".
So I say we gather around and convince the world to skip that day. Because it's evil.
Never mind that's weak.

There's a movie about Satan or something being released on that day next year.

Yeah this took me about a century to reply to but, no, it didn't. I still love Bob and David as much as I did before I saw the flick.
On another note, semi-related, I just got the RRR CD today! It's pretty awesome. They also sent me Eban's other CD, Hollywood Free-For-All, and a letter from Eban as well. They're pretty generous at the Netherota record label.
